A Visual Multi-Sensory Experience for Families

A Visual Multi-Sensory Experience for Families

Just  Us Three and The Sea comes to The Atkinson on Saturday 23 August and introduces children to the world of music through storytelling. The production  was designed especially for children aged 3-7 as a way of introducing them to instruments and live music.

Susanna Lloyd (Artful Playground) ran music workshops in primary schools and after being surprised at the children’s lack of musical knowledge, decided a new approach was needed to welcome children to the world of music from an early age.

Inspired by Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf and We’re going on a bear hunt (Helen Oxenbury, Michael Rosen), the idea of a lost seagull with a broken wing, (now known as Sedrick), was born. Sedrick is to be represented by the violin, or any other smallish instrument such as a flute or clarinet. His friend Gerry the Giraffe is represented by a saxophone, trombone, or trumpet, and Bernard the Bear by a double bass, euphonium or bassoon.

With Philip Huxley as Illustrator and Barbara Hockaday (associate artist for Artful Playground) as co-composer and co-project leader, the show previewed at The Octagon Theatre in Bolton in October 2012 receiving rave reviews! Just Us Three and The Sea starts at 2pm, tickets are £7.50 adults and £5.50 children.

Join us before the show for our Playful Puppets of the Sea Workshop, 1pm-1.45pm and have creative fun making a sea-themed puppet. Tickets are just £2.50 per child (adults go free).
