Love Folk Festival returns to The Atkinson

Love Folk Festival returns to The Atkinson

The little festival with the big heart returns and now in its third year it celebrates new, upcoming and traditional folk music across two days all under one roof from Friday 10 – Saturday 11 February.

This year sees Folk –Rock headliners Fairport Convention and ex –Bellowhead frontman Jon Boden perform solo. As well as the main concerts in both of The Atkinson’s performance spaces the FREE Busk Love Folk Stage is back on the Saturday in the Foyer run by festival sponsors FATEA Magazine.

Marking their 50th year Fairport Convention invites you to enjoy an evening of musical celebration with them at The Atkinson in a golden anniversary concert.

“Vigorous and confident…the music leapt around the room.”The Mirror

Jon Boden has become the stand out performer of his generation of traditional folk artists, and he is certainly one whose repertoire extends far beyond the boundaries of the genre. Join him as he embarks on his first ever solo tour!

Main stage performers also include Sam Kelly & The Lost Boys, Lady Maisery, Folklaw and Luke Jackson.

Getting gigs and making recordings is only part of the picture, Fatea’s Editor, Neil King, will be running a FREE  workshop/Q&A session on how to make the best use of the internet and social media to help get your band noticed and advice on how to approach radio stations, magazines, bloggers etc to maximise awareness. This event is free, just drop in 11am-12pm (Theatre Bar).

Busk Love Folk in the Foyer takes place between 1pm and 6pm on Saturday 11 February.  After choosing the winners from entries across the country 8 slots have been awarded to Sharon Lazibyrd, Neil Stanton, Paula Ryan, Off the Grid, Emi McDade, Loreley Duo, Elfin Bow and Chris Fox.

This Valentines weekend – come and spend the most romantic weekend of the year at one of Merseyside’s best music destinations? There’ll be dancing, singing, drinking, eating and lots of people generally loving folk!

About The Atkinson

The Atkinson is Southport’s beautiful home for music, theatre, art, poetry, literature and history, right in the middle of Lord Street in Southport. The stunning 19th century buildings were refurbished in 2013 to create a really welcoming family friendly multi art-form venue with a strong contemporary feel.

The Atkinson offers an exciting and varied destination for families, cultural tourists and arts enthusiasts alike, with a full day and night time offer. Wander through the major exhibitions and see performances from some of the UK’s foremost musicians, actors, performers and companies, films, family activities and much more.

Find out about Sefton’s heritage with amazing tales of the sea, Red Rum, Dan Dare and Motor racing in the Museum and then ‘Discover Ancient Egypt’   in our Egyptology Gallery, this remarkable collection of archaeology was  discovered by Mrs Goodison from Bootle and until 2015 had not been seen for over 40 years.

Our lovely gift shop  is well worth a visit, with its handmade in Merseyside jewellery and crafts collection and Southport memorabilia and then relax and take in your day in our Bakery with a scrumptious café and coffee.
