What’s On at The Atkinson this September – December

We hope you can join us for our forthcoming season as we present array of events we’re sure that you’ll love! Take a peek at our latest brochure featuring well known music, comedy and film as well as the new programme of exhibitions that are all FREE!

To kick start our latest season, we’re pulling up our legwarmers and rewinding back to the 80s with a Totally 80s Weekender (Friday 15 and Saturday 16 September). There’ll be a screening of the family favourite The Goonies (PG), workshops, a Vintage & Makers Fair plus appearances from 80s legends Nik Kershaw and Hue and Cry!

October sees the return of the Big Blues Festival, now in its third year! On Friday 6 & Saturday 7 we host a line-up that is as big as it is bold with headliners Revolutionaires and Mike Sanchez & his Band. The Little Blues Stage is back in the Foyer thanks to our media sponsors and partners, Blues Matters Magazine.

We invite you to join us for a family adventure over October half term with KidsFest 2017!

Morgan MagicTravel back in time with magicians on Tuesday 24 October with Morgan & West: More Magic for Kids, a marvellous magic show full of crazy capers for the young, old, and everyone in-between!

We then set sail on a magical, musical adaptation of Lost and Found, the award-winning, bestselling picture book from Oliver Jeffers on Saturday 28 October.

Did we say Christmas? Yes, already! From Friday 17 to Sunday 19 we host One Big Weekend to celebrate Southport’s Christmas Lights Switch On and Stick Man Saturday with a weekend of family fun, theatre and activities for all ages to enjoy together.

Our Christmas production this year is The Night Before Christmas showing from Wednesday 13 to Sunday 17 December. Take advantage of our early bird ticket price of just £9 (£12 after 30 September). Ages 3+

Political comedian and host of Unspun, Matt Forde presents a show completely changed by events which haven’t yet happened on Friday 13 October. Now, with added Trump!

Paul Chowdhry, the comedy powerhouse brings his highly anticipated ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ stand-up show Live Innit on Wednesday 20 December!

As well as our Museum on the second floor which hosts permanent displays of local history and ancient Egypt, we have a programme of exciting exhibitions to visit this autumn.

Adventures in Egypt – Mrs Goodison & Other Travellers opening on Saturday 23 September brings to life the bustling Egyptian tourist scene whilst telling the story of pioneering women who were influential collectors, writers and excavators including the lady behind our museum collection, Anne Goodison!

Located: Southport is an interactive installation and exhibition that is inspired by the importance of marine history and waterways in the UKs heritage. Opening on Saturday 11 November.

On Saturday 30 September from 11am – 4pm we celebrate all things coastal with the official opening of our new Museum display and new café A Great Little Place at a special event, She Sells Sea Shells! For more information visit theatkinson.co.uk
