Laugh out Loud Comedy Club comes to The Atkinson

Laugh out Loud Comedy Club is coming to The Atkinson this summer. Southport’s highly anticipated new multi art form venue has secured the prestigious comedy club for the first Saturday of every month, starting on 4 May 2013.

Headlining the opening show on 4 May is comedy legend Paul Tonkinson. The double Time Out Comedian of the Year winner will be joined by comedy circuit favourites, Howard Read and Scott Bennett.

Comedian and creator of LOL Comedy Club Damion Larkin said,This night is going be jam packed with laughs! The line-up we’ve got for the whole season is top-notch meaning three awesome shows, with nine brilliant comedians including five off the telly and six if you include Luxemburg! For me, it’s all about bringing Southport a weekend comedy club that’s as good as anywhere in the country and at a much lower price than you’d pay in a big city or even that fancy London. So come and see some of the best national and comics around in the regions newest venue”.

TV regular Paul Tonkinson, has hosted The Big Breakfast, Sunday Show, Take The Mike and appeared on countless TV comedy shows, recent appearances include Michael McIntyres Comedy Roadshow and Live at the Comedy Store and has stormed the UK and International comedy circuit for years.  Described by Michael McIntyre as “Hilarious; simply one of the best comics around”, expect explosive, exuberant, tender comic reflections on love, food, family and the day-to-day idiosyncrasies of early 21st century living from one of the country’s finest comedians.

Howard Read is opening the night’s proceedings. Read is best known for being one half to the animated six-year-old virtual stand up comic Little Howard from BBC’s Big Howard, Little Howard, the world’s first human cartoon double act. Together they have appeared on some of the biggest TV shows on three continents, performed in front of (and insulted) The Queen and been nominated for The Perrier Award.

Also joining the line-up is Scott Bennett, who, since bursting onto the circuit in October 2009, has charms audiences with his delightfully witty comic observations about life’s little quirks, relationships and the subtleties of human behaviour.

The second show is on 1st June. Headlining is Mock The Week Regular Alun Cochrane; joining him will be Dutch funny man Wouter Mejs and Geordie Barry Dodds.

6 July will see Tom Stade; a familiar face on BBC1’s Live at the Apollo headlining the final opening trilogy of performances. Mick Ferry and Big Lou will be adding their own brand of hilarious stand up to the evening.

Every month, the very best live stand-up comes to The Atkinson, each show has four top comedians with MC Damion Larkin, one of Britain’s most promising comedy talents. Wherever possible, there will be comedians from such shows as BBC2’s Mock The Week, Shooting Stars, Channel 4’s 8 Out of 10 Cats, BBC1’s Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow, Have I Got News For You, QI and Paramount’s Live at The Comedy Store. Previously, Laugh out Loud Comedy Club has booked the likes of Jason Mansford, John Bishop and Sarah Millican before they hit the big time.

Advance tickets for all these shows are on sale now, including season tickets, which will get you into all three of the spring shows. Prepare your jaws for an achingly good time this spring, with Laugh Out Loud Comedy Club and The Atkinson.
