Discover Ancient Egypt

Explore the achievements of this early civilisation through our beautiful collection of ancient Egyptian artefacts. Our exhibition is split into 4 themes – everyday life, ritual, beauty and communication.

Free Pre-visit Resource: Gold and Grime

Before visiting The Atkinson pupils can put our collection into context and explore why so many Egyptian treasures are now on display in the North West of England. Our short animation tells the fascinating true story of Anne Goodison and the other Victorian women behind the North West’s collections. An interactive map allows pupils to undertake their own research and explore the collections now on display at The Atkinson and other museums in the area.
