Welcome to a new year of arts and culture at The Atkinson! This handy little guide will give you an overview of the fantastic activities and events on offer this season. If you are looking to spend time with friends and family, to be entertained, or to discover something new, you’ve found the right place.

Don’t miss out on visiting our current exhibitions before we take a short break to refresh the art galleries ready for our annual Sefton Open. Did you know, our fine art collection has works from Walter Sickert (1860-1942), Laura Knight (1877-1970), L. S. Lowry (1887-1976) and Tracy Emin (b.1963)? You can view them all in our current exhibition, The Ties That Bind (ends 15 Mar).

Families are at the heart of The Atkinson. This February half term enjoy free activities including Story & Rhyme Time (17 Feb), Ask an Egyptologist Sessions (18 Feb) and Make It Craft Workshops (20 Feb). In the theatre, Dinosaur Adventure Live (21 Feb) takes over with an awe-inspiring interactive stage show for all the family to enjoy.

There’s always something special about being part of a shared experience. In our theatre and studio you can laugh out loud with stand up comedians, immerse yourself in emotive plays, and raise the roof with spectacular live music.

Miles Jupp’s (6 Feb) new stand up show, On I Bang, is a tale about surprise, fear, luck, love and qualified medical practitioners. Happy Bunny Phil Walker (7 Feb) is a man in the middle of life frantically striving to stay relevant in the rapidly changing world around him.

Thomas Hardy’s masterpiece, Far From The Madding Crowd (12 Feb), is thrillingly brought to life on stage. Designed with the access needs of neurodiverse audiences in mind, Tiny Fragments of Beautiful Light (28 Feb) is one woman’s journey of self-discovery. Charlie Connelly’s Attention All Shipping: A Celebration of the Shipping Forecast (18 Mar) is an amusing and moving celebration of an iconic cultural institution.

Pretty Vacant: The Story of Punk and New Wave (29 Jan) stars Kevin Kennedy, best known for his role as Curly Watts in Corrie and his West End stage career including We Will Rock You and Rock of Ages. Love Folk Festival (14-15 Feb) returns for Valentine’s weekend with headliners Alex Hart and Blue Rose Code. Graham Gouldman (6 Mar) performs his songs for 10cc, the Hollies, Herman’s Hermits, the Yardbirds and more.

We look forward to welcoming you.
