Age 5+

Running Time 45 mins
This event takes place in February Half Term as part of Kidsfest.

In the hours when most people are tucked up, sound asleep in their beds, Midnight the cat rules the roost. She explores the rooftops and alleyways of her town, encountering all the other creatures that are awake in the night. And in the still, quiet moments between one day finishing and the next one beginning, she has the ability to see and to understand all the dreams of the people sleeping in their beds below.

But when a wild wind blows through the town, strange things begin to happen…

Midnight Leaps In is a dream-like show about time, the night and dreaming. And about clever cats and really silly dogs. For family audiences with children age 5+, Midnight Leaps In combines beautiful puppetry, music and storytelling.

Made and directed by Alison Duddle, performed by Mark Whitaker, Music by Chris Davies

A Bird in the Hand Theatre

A Bird in the Hand Theatre is a puppet and mask theatre company based in West Yorkshire. We make beautiful, quirky shows, installations and walkabouts for outdoor and theatre audiences. Other current work includes Special Delivery and the Bewonderment Machine.

The company was formed in 2017 by artist and director Alison Duddle and performer Mark Whitaker. Alison is a puppet and mask maker and director, and was previously joint Artistic Director of Horse + Bamboo Theatre. Previous indoor shows include Moominland Midwinter (the Egg/Horse + Bamboo), Red Riding Hood, Hansel and Gretel, Little Leap Forward (Horse + Bamboo). Mark’s performance work spans indoor and outdoor theatre (Horse + Bamboo, Norwich Puppet Theatre, Thingumajig Theatre) and puppetry for Film and TV . He recently spent time in a galaxy far, far away for the latest Star Wars movies. They have been joined in the company by a stalwart, talented and rather nice team of performers and musicians including Frances Merriman, Jonny Quick, Chris Davies and Aya Nakamura.
