Young Curators Summer Sessions

Friday 4, Tuesday 8, Friday 11, Tuesday 15 August 2023
11am – 3pm.
Age 14 – 18.
Free, lunch included.

Are you interested in the arts? Would you like to work in a museum in the future? Then we want to hear from you!

In these free summer sessions, you will work with industry professionals to develop your creative skills and understanding of museum collections. Across the 4-week programme, you will get hands-on experience working with The Atkinson’s own collections. You will learn life skills such as evaluation techniques, teamwork practices and gain workplace experience.

Participating in the Young Curators Summer Sessions can be counted as volunteer time, which can be used as part of the requirement for a Baccalaureate programme or for the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. This experience can also be used as evidence towards the achievement of your Art’s Award (Bronze, Silver and Gold). Participation in this scheme may improve your CV, demonstrating to prospective employers that you are keen to learn and are interested in acquiring new skills.

Priority will be given to new Young Curators who can make all sessions but there may still be availability for individual sessions so please indicate which workshops you are interested in attending. Previous Young Curators are welcome to sign up for the last two sessions.

Friday 4th August: What does ‘museum’ mean?
Tuesday 8th August: Curators of the Future!
Friday 11th August: Getting Creative – Heritage Open Days Event
Tuesday 15th August: Finishing touches – Heritage Open Days Event

Please note: The last two sessions will create an event that we hope the Young Curators will then run for other Young People during Heritage Open Days either on the 9th or 16th September. We also aim to have a celebration event with all families on Saturday 16 September, so please save those dates.
