Martin Taylor and Martin Simpson Return to Southport

Martin Taylor and Martin Simpson Return to Southport

Award winning Jazz guitarist Martin Taylor teams up with acoustic and slide guitar virtuoso Martin Simpson for a performance at The Atkinson on Thursday 10 October at 7.30pm.  The pair will share the stage throughout the performance – adding to each other’s songs and instrumental pieces and taking them to new levels.

Martin Taylor was name-checked on BBC Radio 2’s Breakfast Show in June this year as being considered THE best guitarist by no less than Jeff Beck – leading to a live session on the show the next morning. As well as being a true guitar innovator, he is also a master concert performer, dazzling audiences with his solo shows, which combine virtuosity, emotion and humour, with a strong stage presence.

There is no doubt that after 35 years as a professional musician Martin Simpson is, right now, better than ever. Widely acknowledged as one of the finest acoustic and slide guitar players in the world, his interpretations of traditional songs are masterpieces of storytelling.

Martin Simpson is returning to The Atkinson on Friday 25 October with some of the top names in folk as part of The Full English. The Atkinson is just one of 11 venues that will receive this tour, performing music inspired by The Full English – the world’s biggest digital archive of English traditional folk music and dance tunes launched in June.

.

Seth Lakeman, Martin Simpson, Fay Hield, Nancy Kerr, Sam Sweeney, Rob Harbron and Ben Nicholls will perform new music and arrangements inspired by material Fay Hield has found within The Full English archive.
