Four of the Most Influential Guitarists in Britain perform at The Atkinson

On Thursday 20 March at 7.30pm, The Atkinson welcomes 4 Parts Guitar, four of the most influential guitarists in Britain Ray Burley, Clive Carroll, John Etheridge, Gordon Giltrap.

The music is spontaneous, exciting, and technically brilliant with Gordon, Ray, John and Clive all bringing their individual styles to the mix. The concert consists of a mix of solo, duo, and quartet pieces.

Gordon, Ray, Clive and John all have successful solo careers. All have had previous collaborations with artists such as John Williams, Rick Wakeman, Stephane Grappelli and Cliff Richard.

4 Parts Guitar are Ray Burley one of Britain’s most experienced guitarists having performed solo concerts, concertos, on film scores, radio, and television and in virtually every possible guitar ensemble combination.

Clive Carroll the youngest member of the group! Clive Carroll was described by Acoustic Guitar magazine as ‘Probably the Best and Most Original Young Acoustic Guitar Player and Composer in Britain.

John Etheridge rightly enjoys a glowing reputation throughout the jazz world and beyond and has been described by Pay Metheny as, “One of the best guitarists in the world”.

Gordon Giltrap one of the most innovative acoustic guitarists in the UK today, Gordon Giltrap has developed his own unique style, much copied, but never bettered. It is impossible not to be awestruck as he coaxes incredible melodies from his instruments; you almost suspect a second pair of hands.

These four virtuoso guitarists interweave their magical playing, explore their expert knowledge and share their love of music on this very special night that is not to be missed.

 About The Atkinson

The Atkinson is Southport’s beautiful new home for music, theatre, art, poetry, literature and history, right in the middle of Lord Street in Southport. Significant investment has been made in refurbishing the stunning 19th century buildings, to create a really welcoming multi art-form venue with a strong contemporary feel.

The Atkinson offers an exciting and varied destination for families, cultural tourists and arts enthusiasts alike, with a full day and night time offer. Wile the day away visiting the new shop, that sells gifts and contemporary crafts from regional makers and then relax in the Bakery, choosing from a selection of artisan bread sandwiches, cakes and sharing platters. You can even take little bit of The Atkinson home with you from the delicatessen. Wonder through the major exhibitions and see performances from some of the UK’s foremost musicians, actors, performers and companies, films, family activities and much more.

In October 2014 The Atkinson becomes something even more exciting for visitors, with the opening of the museum which will tell the story of Southport and Sefton as well as the area’s dramatic maritime history. It will also be the new home for the Goodison Egyptology Collection, a remarkable collection of archaeology that has not seen for over 40 years.
