The Atkinson Just Keeps Getting Funnier!

The Atkinson has announced its comedy programme from May to December so far, with TV names such as Seann Walsh, Henning Wehn, Paul Foot, Paul Chowdhry, Katherine Ryan. Tommy Tiernan and Mark Steel to appear.

Since opening in May 2013, The Atkinson has seen some of the best comedians in the business come through the doors, helping The Atkinson become a flagship venue for Sefton and Merseyside and attracting people from across the region.

The new season of events begins on Saturday 24 May with comedies fastest rising star, Seann Walsh returning with an all-new show to show the world that he’s The Lie-in King!

Star of Channel 4’s ‘Stand Up For The Week’, BBC1’s ‘Live At The Apollo’ and Dave’s ‘Argumental’, Seann is a charming and charismatic natural born observational storyteller, and one of the most frighteningly precocious talents to emerge from the UK comedy circuit in years. Tickets are £14.

The fresh, often dangerously fierce pop-culture obsessed Canadian Katherine Ryan embarks on her second UK stand-up tour Glam Role Model. Having fast become a recognisable face on British TV with appearances on BBC 1′s Live At The Apollo & Let’s Dance for Comic Relief, BBC 2′s Mock The Week, QI & Nevermind The Buzzcocks, C4′s 8 Out of 10 Cats and more. Catch her at The Atkinson on Friday 17 October– tickets are £12 (£10 concessions).

Mark Steel makes his first appearance at The Atkinson on Saturday 25 October with his new show Mark Steel’s Back in Town Show – tickets are £15.

The Mark Steel’s in Town Show is based on the Radio 4 series in which Mark writes a show centred around each town and has now been to at least 5 million places. It’s a sparkling verdict on humanity that he has mocked them all and somehow he is still alive.

Mark has presented the BAFTA nominated Mark Steel Lectures for BBC2, is a regular on BBC One’s Have I Got News For You and Radio 4’s Newsquiz. He’s also appeared on BBC2’s QI and Room 101. He’s written several, acclaimed books, including: Reasons To Be Cheerful and What’s Going On and he writes a weekly column for The Independent.

Henning Wehn is back with his new show Eins, Zwei DIY on Saturday 8 November. After more than a decade in Britain, the German Comedy Ambassador has ‘groan’ to like puns…. though he still couldn’t eat a whole one.

Fresh from hosting Channel 4′s Stand Up For The Week, LAFTA funniest stand-up award winner 2013, Paul Chowdhry, embarks on his biggest tour to date Hitting the road with a brand new show full of his unique brand of humour PC –World at The Atkinson on Friday 21 November.
PC may be his initials, but the relentless world he lives in definitely isn’t. Why do some people find humorous what others consider highly offensive? Why has tackling the preconceptions of political correctness become so contentious? Paul will address this issue along with such diverse subjects as the art of attracting women, jokes cut from his TV appearances, non-existent customer services and the now unforgettable 1980′s in his own inimitable uncompromising style. Tickets are £14.

Paul Foot is an English comedian who has appeared on Channel 4’s 8 Out of 10 Cats, Live at The Apollo and many more. He commands a significant cult following called The Guild of Connoisseurs. On Thursday 4 December we welcome Tommy Tiernan a legend in Ireland who outsells any other Irish comic. Tiernan’s mastery of stand-up allows him to take risks other comedians dare not. Through hilarious storytelling and a high energy, non-apologetic delivery he is continually challenging his audience who can be confident they are in safe hands. Tickets are £15 and the event is suitable for ages 15+.
