Winter Folk with the Moulettes at The Atkinson

Winter Folk with the Moulettes at The Atkinson

“complex and beautiful…intriguing and unique” MOJO

The Brighton-based folk-rock band who are known for incorporating prog, pop and classical elements to stunningly original effect head to The Atkinson this September.

With strings, guitars, drums, bassoon and synths, Moulettes’ music weave between Indie Folk, Chamber Pop and Prog Rock to create an incomparable universe. Renowned for their breathtaking live shows it is clear that few bands have the creative range and work ethic of Moulettes.

They were nominated in the Best Group category in the BBC’s Alternative BRIT Awards and won the equivalent category in 2012 in the Fatea Awards and the 2013 Spiral Earth Awards.

They are constantly evolving with a brave approach to production and arrangement that seeks peculiar ways of blending acoustic and electric instruments; for example, putting Bassoons and strings through effects and distortion. Leading from the Cello, female songwriter and virtuosic player Hannah Miller creates another worldly framework in which characters move between the realms of Nature, Magic and Science.

The band has enthralled audiences at the likes of End Of The Road, Cambridge Folk, Cropredy, Latitude and Bestival on the way. They have also supported Mumford & Sons, Seasick Steve, The Levellers, Seth Lakeman and The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, impressing all and sundry.
The event is presented by Smaller Rooms, a new collective of venues promoting quality new music for audiences throughout the northwest.

“This is what a modern folk album should sound like.”

“…songwriting of rare depth and inventiveness, this is a mature, often inspired album.”
