ComedySportz Brings All Ages, All Improvised Fun to The Atkinson

ComedySportz UK are the North Wests top improvised comedy group and they’re back at The Atkinson on Saturday 28 November for more family friendly fun.

The show pits two teams battling it out for laughs as players create quick-witted sketches, scenes and songs from whatever suggestions are thrown at them by the audience. It’s an all ages, all improvised show that’s fast, feel good and always unpredictably funny. There’s a referee on hand to steer the entertainment, call any fouls and help the audience decide the winner.

“It’s comedy as a sport not comedy about sports, and the fans can be just as passionate,” jokes Sean Mason, one of the ComedySportz regular cast. “It’s fresh, funny and unpredictable. More importantly it’s a show that the whole family can enjoy.”

“We love bringing the show to audiences across the country and we always get a great mix of suggestions,” says Sean. “We’re excited to see what suggestions the people of Southport throw at us.”

ComedySportz has been bringing its unique brand of competitive comedy to audiences for 14 years this month and the team are excited to be bringing the show to a new audience.

The show started in nearby Chorley before moving to Manchester and the group now play to audiences across the country. The group are excited to show to young audiences that performing comedy is an achievable aspiration for boys and girls.

“Improv is play and something that as adults we forget how to do,” says Sean. “I think that playfulness is something that really excites the audience, young or old.

Audience suggestions and volunteers are a big part of the fun but don’t worry if you’re shy, just come along and prepare to laugh!

ComedySportz is suitable for all ages, little kids and adult kids. That interactivity seems to make us especially popular for birthday parties. The show is completely improvised so we never know what is going to happen. But whoever ‘wins’ it’s the audience that are the real winners. So come on down, the show can’t start without you!

ComedySportz takes place on Saturday 28 November at 4.30pm at The Atkinson.

Tickets are £8 (£6 children / £24 family) and are available online at theatkinson.co.uk or by calling the Box Office on 01704 533333. They are also available over the counter during The Atkinson opening hours.
