Hilarious Comedy to Come This Season at The Atkinson

Hilarious Comedy to Come This Season at The Atkinson

They say laughter is good for your health – if that’s the case, you should head down to The Atkinson this autumn as they bring the very best to the North West!

Gary Delaney returns after last years appearance at Southport Comedy Festival – with his brand new show: There’s Something About Gary on Saturday 24 September at 8pm, tickets are £15.

The Mock The Week regular has won two Sony Awards, as well as receiving a Chortle Award nomination. His last tour was extended four times and took in over 240 dates. His next tour will once again showcase exactly why he is seen as the premier gagsmith of his generation.

I laughed, and I laughed and I laughed… master craftsman” – The Times

Expect a cavalcade of brilliantly inventive puns” – The Guardian

He recently won Celebrity 15 to 1 and will soon be seen on Celebrity Mastermind and Celebrity University Challenge for team LSE, with his old university mate Martin Lewis (from MoneySavingExpert.com) who encouraged Gary to make his comedy bow. His other TV and radio credits include Robert’s Web (Channel 4), Loose Ends (BBC Radio 4) and Russell Kane’s Whistle-Stop Tour (BBC Radio 2).

Happy Hour is the new show from Liverpool’s very own  Tmesis Theatre.

The workers on Level 3 are racing against the clock to reach their quota of Smiley Faces, but are they really happy enough? A poignant, fast paced, comedy exploring our 21st century obsession with happiness and success. Can we learn to be happy? And can our emotions be bought and sold? The ‘happiness industry’ would have us think so…

Tmesis Theatre’s new production combines Tmesis’ trademark physicality with humour, music, and text from long-term collaborator Chris Fittock.

Like a Richard Curtis romcom reworked by DV8, glorious and full of heart’ The Guardian (for That’s Amore)

You can see Happy Hour on Thursday 13 October at 7.30pm, tickets are £12 (£10 concessions / £8 schools)

Ellie Taylor star of BBC 2’s Mock the Week, BBC 1’s The John Bishop Show,  Radio 4’s The Now Show and C4’s 8 out of 10 Cats is back with a new stand-up show dealing with that pesky bit of marriage known as monogamy.

After seeing her friend perform stand-up, Ellie Taylor decided to turn her talents to comedy & was quickly spotted and selected to be a contestant on the ITV1 series Show Me The Funny.

“Smart, self-mocking and telegenic, it’s hard to see what is going to stand in Taylor’s way” – The Scotsman

Radiates natural charisma… blessed with great flair”The Guardian

See her new show Ellie Taylor : Infidelliety at The Atkinson for the first time on Friday 28 October at 8pm, tickets are £12.

The Edinburgh Fringe hit Austentatious saddles their horses and heads to The Atkinson this November as part of their grand tour. They bring an all-star cast to improvise a brand new Jane Austen work before your very eyes, based on a single audience suggestion.

Previous ‘lost’ masterpieces have included Sixth Sense & Sensibility, Double 0’ Darcy and Mansfield Shark. No two shows are ever the same!

Performed in period costume with live musical accompaniment, Austentatious is a Regency treat. Hold on to your bonnets: this hilarious show is not to be missed. (Swooning guaranteed.)

“…joyously performed” ★★★★★ – The Times

A joy to behold” ★★★★ – The Guardian

A bravura slab of improvisation” – Independent

Austentatious is at The Atkinson on Thursday 3 November at 7.30pm, tickets are £12.

One of our favourite comics, Mark Steel is back in his newest stand up show, a surprising and enthralling story told with aplomb.

It never really bothered me that I’d never met my mum.

It never occurred to me I needed to meet her to ‘find out who I was’, as it didn’t seem likely I’d discover I was someone different to who I thought I was. Could it turn out I was three stone lighter than I thought, or I spoke Italian or supported Arsenal or had a fear of Liquorice Allsorts?

But after the birth of my own son, I realised it’s quite an event to have a child, and she may well remember giving birth to me, and maybe even the adoption.

★★★★ The Guardianhe has got an amazing tale to tell’

★★★★ The Independentessential viewing’

Mark Steel: Who Do I Think I Am can be seen at The Atkinson on Thursday 24 November at 8pm, tickets are £15.

The Laugh Out Loud Comedy Club is back for a brand new season on the first Saturday of every month and offers a raucous evening of entertainment bringing the best live stand-up to Southport!

Comedians off the telly and from such shows as BBC2’s Mock The Week, Shooting Stars, Channel 4’s 8 Out of 10 Cats, BBC1’s Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow, Have I Got News For You, QI amongst others. In addition to TV regulars, there’ll be comics on the brink of stardom. Previously we’ve booked the likes of Jason Manford, John Bishop and Sarah Millican before they hit the big time.

Your MC for the night is Damion Larkin, renowned for being a spontaneous and lovable host. All line-ups are subject to change, but don’t worry, we’ll only replace them with someone twice as funny.
