For the first time on Sunday 11 December The Atkinson will see the full L’Orchestra dell’ Arte players come together with their conductor Edward Peak for a festival family concert. They will be joined by soloist Kathryn Rudge, and the Choir of Holy Trinity Church, Southport for a very special family concert – Sounds of Christmas.
Sounds of Christmas is packed full of fantastic melodies, with something for everyone. The orchestra will be playing sections of the ballet music from Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty, probably some of the greatest ballet music ever written. They also delve into the sparkling world of Old Vienna with polkas from the Strauss family and they won’t forget to include standard fayre such as Leroy Anderson’s Sleigh Ride.
Emma Lloyd from The Atkinson said:
“This is going to be one of our highlights of 2016. The full L’Orchestra dell’ Arte orchestra on stage performing some of the very best and well known scores, carols and Christmas songs. It’s one of those events that all ages can enjoy together and that make you feel Christmas has truly begun!”
Soloist, Kathryn Rudge, star of the opera stage, will add her own thrilling contribution to the evening when she joins the orchestra in some of the best-known seasonal music.
The audience will be invited to join in with the chorus members and the orchestra for traditional carols; well-known Disney hit songs and other Christmas standards.
Tickets for Sounds of Christmas are on sale now for £15 (£10 under 16s). It’s the perfect way to see in the festive season.
L’Orchestra dell’ Arte players deliver The Atkinson’s Cake and Classical programme which takes place on the first Monday of every month.
Let’s Hear it for the Viola on Monday 5 December is the last of this year’s events. Enjoy the combination of clarinet and piano to hear the famous Kegelstatt Trio by Mozart, KV498. Written in 1786 it is in the key of Eflat major, a favourite of many composers. Cathy Perkins, Valerie Warr and Stephanie Howard join together to highlight this lovely work (and a little surprise!)
Next seasons concerts are now on sale all starting at 1pm and tickets are £11 (season tickets are £38). To book or for more information please visit theatkinson.co.uk or call our Box Office team on 01704 533 333.
