Award Winning Nordic Folk Band Basco at The Atkinson

Award Winning Nordic Folk Band Basco at The Atkinson

Multi award winning, nordic folk band Basco bring their complex and varied music to Southport for the first time on Friday 27 January.

From hard hitting, high-speed reels full of rosin dust and sweat, through sweet and melancholy tunes that tell of loves won and lost – Basco’s music tells stories.

Their material is nearly all original, stealing shamelessly and frivolously from Scandinavian, English, Celtic and American idioms to create a kind of organic, soupy stew – full of vitamins and anti-oxidants.

“Dazzling … Basco were definitely the weekend’s most popular discovery, with tremendous ensemble verve and richly textured arrangements” The Scotsman

If you give it a chance, it’ll lure you into the forest, give you a magic sleeping draught and keep you prisoner in a gilded cage in a tower on a hill in the darkest reaches surrounded by briars until a prince comes and saves you. But in a nice way, obviously.

Emma Lloyd, Programme Manager at The Atkinson said:

“Basco are infectious – I am hooked! They are such talented virtuoso musicians performing with such character and enthusiasm. Folk fans should come along and see this – what better way to spend a Friday night than discovering great new music? You will have a great night and just for £10!”

Basco are supported by Jack Rutter –a respected guitarist and multi-instrumentalist working within the English tradition. Self- taught, he is known for his for his highly rhythmic tune backing, flatpicking and fingerstyle playing. In addition to his contribution to Moore Moss Rutter, Jack plays in the Seth Lakeman Band, and he is in high demand as a session guitarist for numerous other artists and outfits in the British folk scene and further afield.

Basco with Jack Rutter perform at The Atkinson on Friday 27 January at 7.30pm. Tickets are *£10.
