Anyone with young children will recognise these immortal words instantly as the opening lines of the book ‘Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s Dairy’ by Lynley Dodd.
Featuring many of the characters from the books like Hercules Morse, as big as a Horse – Bottomley Potts, covered in spots – Schnitzel von Krumm, with the very low tum and Scarface Claw – the toughest tomcat in town. With music, singing and several of your favourite Hairy Maclary stories, this show is a must for the whole family. The Hairy Maclary & Friends Show is on Monday 31 July 1.30pm & 3.30pm. Big Wooden Horse returns in December with A Night Before Christmas Wednesday 13 – Sunday 17 December. A great festive family show for children aged 3-7 years – it’s the perfect Christmas treat. Our Museum and Discover Ancient Egypt Gallery offer interactive activities, stories of shipwrecks, comics, cars and mummies galore! Open every day in the holidays from 10am – 4pm and 11am – 3pm on Sundays.
We ask you ‘Why Look at Animals’ in our new major exhibition – a fascinating look at our relationship with animals and how it has changed. Little explorers should pick up an Arty Apron (throughout half term, subject to availability) to help them delve deeper into the work and with their own tools!
Our Summer Family films are just £3 and include Finding Dory (Wednesday 2 Aug), Sing (Wednesday 9 Aug) , Jungle Book (Wednesday 16 Aug) and Beauty & The Beast (Wednesday 23 Aug). They all start at 2.30pm.
We invite you to get Hands On! Tuesdays throughout the holidays 11am- 3pm, as a way of getting up close and personal with the Museum artefacts and to come and get creative in our drop in Make It! sessions on Mondays from 11am to 3pm.
Rhyme Time continues on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays at the usual times and you can drop into The Art Box anytime during your visit to do free arts and crafts. Don’t forget the Children’s Library is a great place to relax and spend time – and of course to pick up a book for home!
The Zoo Man is back in the Children’s Library on Friday 4, 11 and 25 August. Come and see some of his animals, touch and learn about their behaviour and habitat. Tickets are £2.50 available from the library 2 weeks before.
Dads and their young inventors get ready! Construction Club every other Saturday 5, 19 Aug and 2 Sept, 10.30am – 12.30pm.
