Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice at The Atkinson

Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice at The Atkinson

The Atkinson in Southport celebrates the life and work of Jane Austen this summer.

On Tuesday 18 July 1857, 200 years ago the celebrated novelist Jane Austen died at the young age of 41.

Her work enjoyed by millions, is a core part of the English Literature  curriculum, has inspired many films and a large number of critical essays and her realism and social commentary of the time has earned her great historical importance amongst critics and scholars.

To celebrate we invite you to take a step back in time with Chapterhouse Theatre Company on Friday 28 July at The Atkinson and meet Elizabeth Bennet, Jane Austen’s most loveable heroine in one of her most well-known titles Pride and Prejudice.

When Elizabeth meets the rude and abrupt Mr Darcy, she loathes him at first sight. But is there more to him than meets the eye?

Brought to life by award winning writer Laura Tuner, this brand-new adaptation celebrates the 200th Anniversary of Jane Austen’s death, and promises to be the most splendid evening of the summer. After all, it is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.

Pride and Prejudice comes to The Atkinson on Friday 28 July at 7.30pm. Tickets are on sale now £16 / £14 concessions / £10 under 16s / £45 Family.
