Two of Country Music’s Finest perform at The Atkinson this spring

Gretchen Peters & Kim Richey perform at The Atkinson on Saturday 26 May at 8pm.

As one of Nashville’s most beloved and respected artists for over 2 decades Gretchen Peters  is music royalty, having been inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in October 2014 by singer songwriter Rodney Crowell.

He called her “both a songwriter and a poet (who) sings as beautifully as she writes,” and said her song “The Matador”, “moved me so greatly, I cried from the soles of my feet”.

She has accumulated accolades as a songwriter for artists as diverse as Etta James, Bonnie Raitt, The Neville Brothers, Patty Loveless, George Strait, Bryan Adams and Faith Hill.

If Peters never delivers another tune as achingly beautiful as ‘On A Bus To St. Cloud,’” People Magazine wrote, “she has already earned herself a spot among country’s upper echelon of contemporary composers.”

Her 2015 album, ‘Blackbirds’, debuted at #1 on the UK Country chart and in the top 40 UK pop chart, and was awarded International Album of the Year and Song of the Year. In 2015, The Telegraph named her one of the greatest 60 female singer-songwriters of all time.

Emma Lloyd: The Atkinson said:

“Her last appearance at The Atkinson received such incredible feedback that we had to have her return on the back of her new album released in May.  Her voice is haunting and her ability to speak to her audience and move them is a true gift.”

Gretchen brings a very special guest to this show – Kim Richey, a two-time Grammy-nominated artist and a true storyteller and weaver of emotions. Tender, poetic and aching with life’s truths, Kim’s songs transport you to her world, where words paint pictures and melodies touch the soul. And then there’s her voice. Pure, arresting and honest, it makes you take notice; Kim has the kind of voice where if emotions were ribbons, they’d be streaming in rainbow colours from your iPod.

Tickets for this unique night of county music are on sale now for *£27.50 & £23.50 online HERE through Box Office on 01704 533333 or over the counter during opening hours.
