Murder Most Female (Object of the Month)

Medea, Clytemnestra, and Victorian Visions of Vengefulness
An online talk by Dr Melissa Gustin, The University of York

An introduction is carried out by Dr Laura Eastlake of Edge Hill University who curated our Fatal Attraction exhibition.

This talk looks at two of the most famous murderesses in ancient literature, Medea and Clytemnestra, and their Victorian images – in painting, sculpture, and on stage. How do these nineteenth-century reimagining’s of wronged and revenging women play with ancient versions of the same stories?

This online talk was first presented 10 March 2021 as part of The Atkinson’sObject of the Month series of free talks.
