Reopening Times & Services – 12 April 2021

Following the government roadmap, The Atkinson will reopen in stages with reduced visiting times and limited services. We take the safety and wellbeing of our customers and staff seriously, and we are closely following advice from the Government and Sefton Council.


From 23 March 2021


Southport Library – Select, collect and return service
Every Tuesday & Friday. 11am-3pm.
This service will take place from the external Library door. Visitors are not permitted into the Library at this time. sefton.gov.uk/libraries


From 12 April 2021


Box Office, Shop, Café & Library 
Monday-Saturday. 11am-4pm.

We are closed on Sundays and Bank Holidays

Box Office – The Box Office team are available to help with booking enquiries, refunds and exchanges. Please use contactless payments were possible. Find out What’s On.

Shop – In the Shop, please refrain from handling items unnecessarily and be aware of social distancing in this small space.

Café A Great Little Place will be offering a takeaway service from the external café door with a reduced menu and limited outdoor seating. Visitors are not permitted into the café at this time.

Library – The Library offer will be limited to a lending service and essential tasks only. All public group engagements, including story & rhyme time, are temporarily on hold. sefton.gov.uk/libraries
A One Stop Shop service is located in the Library, available by appointment only. To arrange an appointment call the Contact Centre on 0345 140 0845 or visit the Sefton Council website for more information.

All visitors aged 16 and over are required to provide NHS Test & Trace details on arrival. If you have a smart phone, please download the NHS Test & Trace app and scan the QR codes located in the foyer when you arrive to help speed up entry. These details are kept securely for 21 days and held only for the purpose of contacting people who may have been exposed to a confirmed case of Covid-19 when they have been identified as visiting The Atkinson. As Sefton Council are the Public Health Authority, we will fully support the programme by allowing in only those willing to give their details.

It is mandatory to wear protective face coverings throughout The Atkinson, unless you are eating in the café. When you enter The Atkinson, sanitise your hands and follow the directional signage on the floor. We will monitor visitor capacity to ensure that appropriate social-distancing is maintained at all times.  Please limit your visit to a maximum of one hour per day and adhere to social distancing measures throughout the building.

Toilet facilities are available for visitors to The Atkinson. Seating areas have been temporarily removed. Please ask a member of staff if you need assistance.

Museum & Gallery In line with the government’s roadmap out of lockdown, the Museum & Gallery will not reopen before 17 May (Step 3).  Further information will be provided in due course. Theatre & Studio In line with the government’s roadmap out of lockdown, the Theatre & Studio will not reopen before 21 June (Step 4).  Further information will be provided in due course. Our programme for 2021 is full of comedy, music, theatre and dance. Find out What’s On.

We have been granted the use of Society of London Theatre & UK Theatre’s See It Safely mark. The mark certifies that we are complying with the latest Government and industry COVID-19 guidelines, to ensure the safety of our staff and audiences.
