Our ongoing safety measures

From Monday 19 July Sefton Council expects all visitors to Council buildings to maintain existing safety measures. For the Atkinson this includes customers providing NHS Test & Trace details on arrival, observing social distancing guidelines and wearing face coverings throughout the building. We take the safety and wellbeing of our customers and staff seriously, and will ensure that appropriate hygiene standards are protected.


Museum, Galleries, Box Office, Shop, Café & Library

Monday – Saturday. 11am – 4pm.
We are closed on Sundays and Bank Holidays

Museum & Galleries – There is a one-way system in place around the museum and galleries (free entry, booking is not required). On our website you can browse our collection of Online Exhibitions, discover our Collections and learn something new in our Online Events programme.

Box Office – The Box Office team are available to help with booking enquiries, refunds and exchanges. Please use contactless payments were possible. Find out What’s On.

Shop – In the Shop, please refrain from handling items unnecessarily and be aware of social distancing in this small space.

Café A Great Little Place will be offering a takeaway service and limited indoor seating.

Library – The Library is open, however services are limited. Please check the Sefton Libraries page for up to date information: sefton.gov.uk/libraries. A One Stop Shop service is located in the Library, available by appointment only. To arrange an appointment call the Contact Centre on 0345 140 0845 or visit the Sefton Council website for more information.


Safety Measures


All visitors aged 16 and over are required to provide NHS Test & Trace details on arrival. If you have a smart phone, please download the NHS Test & Trace app and scan the QR codes located in the foyer when you arrive to help speed up entry. These details are kept securely for 21 days and held only for the purpose of contacting people who may have been exposed to a confirmed case of Covid-19 when they have been identified as visiting The Atkinson. As Sefton Council are the Public Health Authority, we will fully support the programme by allowing in only those willing to give their details.

It is mandatory to wear protective face coverings throughout The Atkinson, unless you are eating in the café. We will monitor visitor capacity to ensure that appropriate social-distancing is maintained at all times. Toilet facilities are available for visitors to The Atkinson. Please ask a member of staff if you need assistance.

We’re Good To Go
We’re Good To Go is the official UK mark to signal that a tourism and hospitality business has worked hard to follow Government and industry COVID-19 guidelines and has a process in place to maintain cleanliness and aid social distancing.


See It Safely
We have been granted the use of Society of London Theatre & UK Theatre’s See It Safely mark. The mark certifies that we are complying with the latest Government and industry COVID-19 guidelines, to ensure the safety of our staff and audiences.
