The Atkinson is fully accessible for buggies and little legs, with lifts and rails throughout. We have toilets are on all floors, baby changing facilities on the ground floor as well as full adult changing facilities on the first floor. Our award-winning cafés are passionate about great coffee and delicious fresh food. They offer the finest locally-roasted artisan coffee delivered by trained baristas and imaginative food created in their own kitchens. A kids half term lunch bag is £5 and includes a sandwich (ham, cheese, tuna), piece of fruit (apple, banana), carton of juice (apple, orange) and a chocolate cup cake.

Our stunning Egyptology museum takes visitors on a journey through what life was like in ancient Egypt at the time of the Pharaohs. Visitors can see an intricately decorated coffin lid, the Mummy of Nes-Amun, a wooden Ba-bird and rare paddle dolls, amongst many other artefacts. Interactive displays include the ‘Weighing of the Heart’ ceremony, X-raying an Ibis mummy and a hieroglyphic jigsaw wall. Take part in our new A.R. experience, The Ba Bird Tour, bringing artefacts to life by scanning the QR codes in the museum with your phone.
MUSEUM – Between Land & Sea

Between Land and Sea is a museum full of the stories of the people who have lived and worked along the Sefton Coast, from prehistoric times to the present day. Interactive displays include sending a digital postcard, finding ships using sonar and matching birds with their song. Take part in our new A.R. experience, The Local Legends Tour, bringing artefacts to life by scanning the QR codes in the museum with your phone.
LIBRARY – Southport Children’s Library

The showpiece of Southport Library is the extended children’s section that includes a ship, specially made for the library, named after Kathleen – a real fishing boat built in Southport around 1900. Other areas include a teenage space, self-service machines and a wider range of books. ‘Story & Rhymetime’ takes place every Wednesday at 11.30am (limited places and booking essential, please telephone the library to reserve a place 0151 934 2118).
