About The Play

“It is not what we think or feel that makes us who we are. It is what we do. Or fail to do.”Jane Austen, Sense and Sensibility

Adapted for the stage by Laura Turner, Sense and Sensibility is a classic from master of satire Jane Austen. Our story follows two sisters of the recently destitute Dashwood family; Elinor, possessed of good common sense, and Marianne, characterised by her emotional sensibilities. Marianne must overcome adversity as her pursuit of the dashing John Willoughby is complicated by the interests of Colonel Brandon. Meanwhile, Elinor finds herself in a romantic entanglement with clergyman Edward Ferrars. Austen’s trademark razor wit, aided by Turner’s deft adaptation, is on full display in this fresh take on the quintessential Regency romance.
