Hosting Eurovision in Liverpool is like a grand homecoming for music itself. The city’s love for diverse genres and its thriving music scene will undoubtedly add a unique flavour to the contest. Southport is only a short journey from Liverpool, so you better believe that we are continuing the party mood right along the coast.

Southport BID and the Southport business community have lined up lots of exciting events for people of all ages to enjoy including a Southport Calling festival in the town centre. Southport Calling at the Lord Street Bandstand will be a fun-filled celebration of the best and brightest musical talent from our local community. This will include dance groups, live bands, string musicians, and performances from the Sing For Southport competition finalists. The event will be hosted by the team at Sandgrounder Radio.

Southport Calling will start at 12pm with a focus on family fun.  There will be performances from Birkdale Orpheus Society, Holy Trinity Primary School, and an amazing list of local dance groups. The Sing for Southport competition will start from 2pm, with talented vocalists performing to compete for the top prize. From 4pm, Southport Strings Ensemble will take the event through to evening, which will then feature a line-up of live bands performing until late.

One gallery in particular is highlighting contemporary Ukrainian photographers by reflecting the vibrancy, diversity and creativity of modern Ukrainian culture. That gallery is Open Eye and we are proud to be partnered with them to deliver Home.

From 4 May – 6 June 2023, works from Ukrainian photographers Sasha Kurmaz and Viktor Maruahchenko will be displayed on The Atkinson’s façade, taking over the windows of Southport Library. Both projects were shot in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine, but at different times, and about different people and communities.
