Join our beginner-friendly felting workshop! Bring your creativity and get ready to unleash your inner feltmaking wizard as we guide you through the gentle art of transforming fluffy wool into adorable decorative items.

No prior experience necessary! Our friendly instructor will share simple techniques that anyone can master. There will be plenty of revision and consolidation and learning will build on previous learning.

At enrolment, you will need your NI number and proof of benefits (if applicable). Your tutor will provide most of the learning resources, materials and equipment needed for the course. You will need to come prepared to the lessons with an A4 pad; pen and folder or file to keep your work organised.  You will also need a suitable bag to store your equipment and materials.

Essential equipment and materials will be provided but you will have the opportunity to purchase additional materials if you choose to do so.


What you will learn:
  • General principles of felting: how can felt be made and what fibres are suitable?
  • Wet felting 1: you will make simple wet felted beads and explore ideas for using them.
  • Wet felting 2: making felt sheets.
    • you will use wool rovings to make sheets of felt, which can be used in other projects or for display
  • Needle felting 1: creating a flat piece of artwork using needlefelting.
    • safe use of felting needles
    • creating different textures using needlefelting
    • you will create a small 2d scene or design
  • Needle felting 2: creating small 3-d figures using needlefelting
    • adding features and decoration to felted figures
    • you will create a small figure based on a simple dome shape
  • Fulling: You will experiment with felting a readymade knitted or crocheted item.
  • You will have the opportunity to try using purpose made felting wool
  • Felting as recycling: you will use second hand woollen items to create new felt pieces
  • Putting it all together: you will combine techniques learned on the course to make embellished felted items
  • Course conclusion; you will discuss and share ideas for further projects and progression

You will have the opportunity to discuss and set your individual learning targets with your tutor and discuss the support you might need to ensure you have an enjoyable and meaningful learning experience.
