Share:

Discover the background to the Atkinson’s In the Venusberg by John Collier, painted in 1901. Collier’s interpretation of the Venusberg legend, made famous by Wagner’s opera Tannhäuser, is considered alongside representations of the same scene by other artists. In addition, there will be discussion of the extent to which Collier’s depiction of Venus reflects images of the goddess from ancient Greece and Rome
