Hutton Art Society
20 May – 17 June 2023
Hutton Art Society is an inclusive, diverse and friendly group that meets on Thursday nights in Hutton Village Hall. It exists to promote art and enjoyment of it in a relaxed environment and is for anyone interested in art; beginners and amateurs are as welcome as experienced professionals. Most members are amateurs who have steadily improved due to tuition during demonstrations from professional artists, talks and workshops. Members find these all help them improve their skills, as well as providing inspiration and interest for their own regular practice. There are also social events, in particular an annual Christmas party.

Artist Statements:
Andrea McGeoghan has created ceramics as a hobby for over 20 years. She has also worked as a gardener and found inspiration in the flowers and plants she tended. Their changing forms, from shoots to flowers and finally seedheads are featured prominently in her work. The pots she makes are as individual as the nature that has inspired them.
Barbara Conroy has a vague idea of what she wishes to produce before starting any painting, though colours and style can constantly change as the painting develops. Abstract paintings can be interpreted differently by lots of people, but seeing the title of the painting can help people understand what she is trying to achieve.
Chrissy Webster is a Canadian-British self-taught creative who loves ecology experimenting with texture. She creates original art and glass and runs community art projects and classes at craft-class-lans.co.uk. Creation is empowerment, a source of expansion, a fire of transformation. Her poetry opens the essence of life.
Daniel Walton is the youngest member of the Society at 11 years old. Inspired into art by his grandmother, fellow member Linda Coulson.
Keith Conroy prefers painting and drawing in watercolour and pen and ink. He uses these to a great extent when portraying nature and architecture.
Lorna Scott has loved art and the natural world all her life; flora and fauna and the colours and patterns of nature inspire and fascinate her. She likes studying a subject and trying to produce a realistic portrayal of it, which can be challenging…so she also enjoys doing imaginative and surreal work as an antidote!
Mike Palmer joined the Hutton Art Society a few years ago after seeing one of their exhibitions. Having not picked up a brush since his school days he decided to try watercolour and experiment with various facets of this medium including combining pen and ink drawing.
Mike Taylor has been influenced by art since childhood and finds painting an excellent activity for relaxing. Brought up in northeast Scotland, the sea and mountain landscapes are usually depicted in his painting, as well as The Lake District from walks over the last 50 years. Mike prefers watercolour but recently challenged himself with oils, a complete contrast.
Rob Weight is a self-taught artist. He has always loved drawing and painting from an early age. He joined Hutton Art Society in the early nineties. His preferred medium is acrylic and his main interests are buildings and landscapes. For Rob, painting is a relaxing hobby in his retirement.
Rosina Marshall has always been interested in art and animals. Encouraged to draw from a young age by her mother, aunt and grandfather who also drew and painted, she has never had any formal training but has developed her own style over the years. 35 years as a Veterinary nurse means she is particularly interested in cats and dogs and has done many pet portraits.
Trish Breakwell is finding her own unique style by working with layers of texture, and garden foliage. This result favours and abstract style which in turn enables the viewer to fill in their own details that makes that piece of artwork unique and personal to their happy memories.
