UK Jazz Vocalist Zoë Gilby Chases Away the January Blues in Style

UK jazz vocalist and songwriter Zoë Gilby, who has been making a real impression on the jazz scene is to perform at The Atkinson on Friday 24 January.

With a constantly expanding repertoire that starts with her compelling original compositions written with double bassist husband Andy Champion and performed by her highly accomplished band, which features guitarist Mark Williams and drummer Richard Brown. Her stockpile of music reaches a wide range of more contemporary material from composers such as Pink Floyd through to Kate Bush. Also included in her varied programme are some superb interpretations of “The Great American Songbook“.

Emma Lloyd, The Atkinson Performing Arts, Marketing and Visitor Services Manager said:

We are looking forward to The Zoë Gilby Trio performing for our audiences. Zoë has a bluesy, sophisticated but powerful voice that oozes talent. She is one to watch for the future as she will be around for a long time!”

Zoë is well deserving of the respect that she has been receiving from many jazz publications. She has performed with some of the UK top jazz musicians, including Alan Barnes, Dave Newton and Jim Mullen Organ Trio. In 2010 she was awarded funding from The Jazz Services Touring Support Scheme and she continues to tour the UK and abroad.

She has performed nationally and internationally at festivals including Orange Island International Jazz Festival (China), Koktebel International Jazz Festival (Ukraine), Pakkasukko Jazz and Blues Festival (Finland), Wakefield Jazz Club, Cork Jazz Festival, Marsden Jazz Festival, Glasgow Jazz Festival and the Sage Gateshead International Jazz Festival, Manchester Jazz Festival, Swanage Jazz Festival, Seven Arts (Leeds) and many more.
