Leading Figure of Scottish Folk Emily Smith Arrives in Southport On Nationwide Tour

The multi award-winning Emily Smith performs at The Atkinson on Wednesday 26 March as part of her nationwide tour of her fifth studio album.

A leading figure of the Scottish folk scene she continues to draw on her talent as one of the finest interpreters of traditional song in the UK. New settings of time worn texts weave beautifully alongside contemporary covers blurring the borders of old and new to create what could be her finest album yet.

Joining Emily are Jamie McClennan (guitar, fiddle & vocals) and Matheu Watson (guitar and whistle).

Emily has toured worldwide performing on the main stage of many of the world’s biggest folk festivals including Cambridge Folk Festival, Celtic Connections, Denmark’s Tonder Folk Festival, Edmonton Folk Festival and the National Folk Festival in Australia.  She has also taken her music to audiences in Japan, Russia, New Zealand and North America.

Alongside her solo career Emily has worked with an array of artists from the folk scene and beyond including Richard Thompson, Jerry Douglas, Eddi Reader and Beth Nielsen Chapman.  In February 2013 she toured the UK with the sold out ‘Transatlantic Sessions’, which saw her singing alongside Mary Chapin Carpenter, Eric Bibb and Teddy Thompson.
