Ding Dong, an Interactive Musical Play about Time for Families

Ding Dong, an Interactive Musical Play about Time for Families

Ding Dong is a new interactive musical play about time from Cloud Cuckoo Land coming to The Atkinson on Saturday 24 September at 11.30am & 2.30pm.

Ding Dong puts children right at the heart of the story in this new play, full of music, sensory storytelling and movement games. A cast of actor-musicians create a unique 360° immersive listening experience by playing a wide variety of instruments live, all around the audience.

Children join in with the music-making through clapping, singing, movement, call-and-response and imaginative suggestions. The post-show musical stay-and-play session offers hands-on engagement with acoustic instruments, as children develop their own musical ideas through play.

So come and help Dot, Smidge, Mooch and Nora save their beloved clock tower – in the nick of time!

“Wonderful and fun, really creative and inclusive… forgot I was in a theatre!” – Audience member

Directed by 2014 REP Foundry artist Katerina Pushkin, Ding Dong combines the talents of musicians from the worlds of classical, world, folk and indie-pop music to create an original and highly accessible introduction to live music-making. Keep an ear out for all sorts of instruments, including saxophone, clarinet, banjo, mandolin, viola, accordion, melodica, amadinda, flute, recorder and lots of different hand-percussion…

The performance lasts 1hr 5mins without an interval. The informal stay-and-play session afterwards lasts 25 mins. Suitable for Ages 4+ .

Tickets for Ding Dong are £8 / £6 children / £24 family. Performances take place at 11.30am and 2.30pm. To book please visit theatkinson.co.uk or call the Box Office on 01704 533 333.

Ding Dong is just one part of the family fun day taking place between 11am and 3pm at The Atkinson on Saturday 24 September to celebrate the opening of the Linaker Children’s Centre Services from The Atkinson Children’s Library. The day will give new and current Children’s Centre service users the opportunity to come along and see the new space, talk to the staff about the services available, and familiarise themselves with The Atkinson and what else there is on offer for their family.

About The Atkinson

The Atkinson is Southport’s beautiful new home for music, theatre, art, poetry, literature and history, right in the middle of Lord Street in Southport. Significant investment has been made in refurbishing the stunning 19th century buildings, to create a really welcoming multi art-form venue with a strong contemporary feel.

The Atkinson offers an exciting and varied destination for families, cultural tourists and arts enthusiasts alike, with a full day and night time offer. Wile the day away visiting the new shop, that sells gifts and contemporary crafts from regional makers and then relax in the Bakery, choosing from a selection of artisan bread sandwiches, cakes and sharing platters. You can even take little bit of The Atkinson home with you from the delicatessen. Wander through the major exhibitions and see performances from some of the UK’s foremost musicians, actors, performers and companies, films, family activities and much more.

The new Museum is now open. Sefton Between Land & Sea tells the story of Southport and Sefton as well as the area’s dramatic maritime history. While Discover Ancient Egypt – the new Egyptology Gallery is the home of the  Goodison Egyptology Collection, a remarkable collection of archaeology that has not been seen for over 40 years.
