The Atkinson Becomes the New Home for Children’s Centre Services

A new Children’s Centre is to open within The Atkinson’s Children’s Library this September.

From September Linaker Children’s Centre will be delivering lots of their activities at The Atkinson, 3 days a week every Monday, Thursday and Friday from 10am – 3pm.

Groups will run throughout the school terms, with additional activities organised during the school holidays as well as baby clinics being available throughout the year.

Linda Caven, Linaker Children’s Centre Manager said:

The Atkinson is the perfect place for the Children’s Centre. The Children’s Library is welcoming and relaxed and already attracts thousands of families and with our joint working we hope to showcase a new way of co-service delivery for Sefton Council. It’s position is perfect, within the town centre and with good transport links. We have a chance to test new ways of working with The Atkinson team to meet shared objectives and help as many families as possible with a truly diverse offer across the Museum, Theatre, Library, Bakery and Gallery spaces.”

Cabinet Member for Children, Schools and Safeguarding is Cllr John Joseph Kelly said:

“This is a great example of co-service delivery from organisations that both put families at the heart of what they do. The Atkinson is a great setting for the delivery of the children’s services to be based, with its central location, transport links and the larger cultural and learning offer it already delivers. It will be exciting to see how this partnership develop.

Family services will include Baby Massage, Baby clinic, First Aid, Pramble Snack and Chat, Beginners English, Baby Group Stay and Play, Baby Mindful, Parenting Advice, Breastfeeding Support and more.

A family open day is taking place to celebrate the launch on Saturday 24 September between 11am and 3pm which will give families across Sefton the chance to come along and see the new space and to talk to the staff about the new services available, as well as meeting The Atkinson staff.  Lots of free activities will be happening in the Children’s Library, the new Children’s Centre and across The Atkinson, as well as two ticketed performances of Ding Dong – a new interactive musical play about time from Cloud Cuckoo Land.

About The Atkinson

The Atkinson is Southport’s beautiful new home for music, theatre, art, poetry, literature and history, right in the middle of Lord Street in Southport. Significant investment has been made in refurbishing the stunning 19th century buildings, to create a really welcoming multi art-form venue with a strong contemporary feel.

The Atkinson offers an exciting and varied destination for families, cultural tourists and arts enthusiasts alike, with a full day and night time offer. Wile the day away visiting the new shop, that sells gifts and contemporary crafts from regional makers and then relax in the Bakery, choosing from a selection of artisan bread sandwiches, cakes and sharing platters. You can even take little bit of The Atkinson home with you from the delicatessen. Wander through the major exhibitions and see performances from some of the UK’s foremost musicians, actors, performers and companies, films, family activities and much more.

The new Museum is now open. Sefton Between Land & Sea tells the story of Southport and Sefton as well as the area’s dramatic maritime history. While Discover Ancient Egypt – the new Egyptology Gallery is the home of the  Goodison Egyptology Collection, a remarkable collection of archaeology that has not been seen for over 40 years.
