Christmas Carol at The Atkinson

Christmas Carol at The Atkinson

Chapterhouse Theatre Company  returns to The Atkinson this December with their stunning adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic festive tale, A Christmas Carol.

Especially adapted for the stage by award-winning writer Laura Turner, A Christmas Carol is back due to popular demand after its sell out shows last year.

On Christmas Eve, the most magical night of the year, the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge is whisked away on a terrifying journey through the past and into the future, accompanied by three fearsome ghosts determined to make him realize the true meaning of Christmas. Charles Dickens’ classic ghost story is brought alive in this most traditional of productions, complete with beautiful period costume, song, dance and a magnificent musical score. Join critically acclaimed theatre company Chapterhouse, as Scrooge’s frozen heart begins to melt and he finally embraces the festive spirit in this most Christmassy of Christmas tales.

“The sensitive adaptation by Laura Turner retained the spirit of the original […] scary ghosts, atmospheric bell ringing and delicate renditions of traditional songs, this Christmas Carol delivered a true festive treat.” Exmouth Journal, 2016

Chapterhouse first toured A Christmas Carol over back to back years in 2010 and 2011. In 2016, the show was revived and reimagined, and performed to sell-out audiences across the UK, including three exclusive performances at The British Museum. In 2017, A Christmas Carol will be returning for a fresh new season of ghostly Dickensian entertainment, providing the perfect antidote to the hustle and bustle of the Christmas rush.

From Dickens’ irresistibly traditional world, audiences will be swept away on a magical journey with the miserly Scrooge as he is transformed into the epitome of the true Christmas spirit.

“Christmas is the most magical time of the year, so I am thrilled that we get to join our audiences in celebrating the season and hopefully, people will go away with a

warm, wintery glow.”  Richard Main, Artistic Director.

A Christmas Carol is special to a lot of people in the way it captures the true heart of Christmas: the spirit of forgiveness, generosity and love. I hope this adaptation reflects everything that the story has come to mean to me and so many others”

Laura Turner, Writer.
