Visual Arts – Call Out – Southport Festival

SOUTHPORT FESTIVAL 11 – 13 May 2018
Would you or your organisation like to be involved?
The team helping to organise the visual arts part of this year’s Festival are hoping that many more of our creative individuals, organisations and business’s will get involved.
As the Festival continues to get bigger and better, it’s a great opportunity to showcase our town’s creative talent, and help our community to connect with us and enjoy being creative themselves.
This year’s theme for the visual arts element of the festival, is ‘Myth, Magic and Legend’. We will be turning the Lord St Mermaid Gardens into a Magical Mermaid Garden, The Atkinson will be hosting a fantastic Viking longboat and building on the legend aspect of the theme and Wesley Street
will again magically transform into a circus full of magic and tricks.
We would like to get as many artists and arts organisations involved as possible and here are some specific opportunities that we hope you will take part in:
  • ‘Pitch & Paint’ – Pitch up at any activity area and create a piece of artwork based on what you see around you. You don’t need to book and it’s free to take part. All artwork created will be entered into a competition and the winners will have their work displayed in a town centre venue
  • Artwork demonstrations- A chance to share what you do. We can equip you with a table and chairs, you just need to tell us where you want them. This is not a sales opportunity, but you can give out info about your artwork.
  • Pre-festival Painting Competition – Create an A3 piece of artwork that responds to the theme of
‘Myth, Magic and Legend. Artwork must be handed into the Atkinson front desk by Friday 20th April. 20 lucky winners will have their work displayed in the Theatre bar.
  • Creative workshops – We would like to offer lots of different interactive opportunities for all ages. If you can deliver a workshop that fits with the theme; let us know and we will help with your costs.
  • Arts Market – Chapel Street will host our Arts Market, on Sat & Sun. Tables will be £35per day or £60 for the 2 days. Gazebos will be provided
  • Artwork Exhibition – We have a number of Town Centre venues happy to display a selection of artwork. If you have work to show we will help you find a venue
