Summer Programme Announced at The Atkinson

 The Atkinson, Sefton’s home for arts and entertainment has announced its new summer season.

Top named comedians Chris Ramsey (Thursday 17 May) and Ed Byrne (Saturday 28 April) feature alongside Edinburgh favourite Barbara Nice in her interactive show Raffle (Saturday 26 May) and the hilarious romp across the Doctor’s 54 years, 13 faces and countless adventures with Who, Me. on Saturday 30 June. Investigating whether Doctor Who (the television show) is guilty of inciting in him a debilitating obsession, or whether it has shaped him into a well-rounded, mentally-sound member of society.

Toya Wilcox delivers an intimate evening of stories and songs on Friday 11 May and headlines Southport Festival (Friday 11 – Sunday 13 May) along with Strictly Come Dancing runner up Giovanni with his new show Born to Win (Sold out) whilst Gretchen Peters, the cast of Walk like a Man on Friday 22 June and Texas born blues musician Hamilton Loomis give the venue the sound of live music!

Chrissy Rock leads the cast in Dirty Dusting on Thursday 14 June. Gladys, Elsie and Olive are three cleaning ladies who are about to be “put out to pasture” by their overzealous office manager Dave. But a chance wrong number requiring a sex chat line rings into the office and gives them a great idea… “Why not run a sex chat line?” After all, their age and appearance won’t matter on the telephone and providing they can keep this a secret from their boss… they could be onto a winner!! Folk fans won’t be disappointed with the combination of Nancy Kerr and Luke Daniels on Friday 18 May, followed by The Demon Barbers XL – ‘Disco At The Tavern’ on Friday 8 June. This part gig, part dance show from the band brings a new repertoire, extra band members and a modern twist to their multi-award winning Roadshow.

Then on Thursday 14 June three friends who are all stars of folk-rock with a wealth of musical history under their belts, Burgess, Nicol & Kemp take to the stage for a night not to be missed, in association with Friends of Folk.

The Chris Bevington Organisation returns after their huge success at the Big Blues Festival last year for a full gig on Friday 6 June

The venue continues to programme amazing work for families with an exciting new adaptation of the classic Wind in the Willows from Scott Ritchie Productions & KD Theatre Productions.

Meet all your favourite characters including loyal Mole, faithful Ratty and wise old Badger as they do their best to keep the mischievous Mr Toad out of trouble. Will they be able to stop the Wicked Weasel from taking over Toad Hall?!

Keepy Uppy  on Saturday  26 May from Tutti Frutti Theatre is a play for the 2018 World Cup year, for football fans, non-football fans, children and families. Join us and celebrate the joy of the beautiful game with popping rhymes, fab footie moves, flicks and sidesteps underscored by toe tapping live music. This is a visual treat that will ignite children’s imagination from kick-off to the final whistle.

Stuff and Nonsense return with their new production of The Gingerbread Man Sunday  13 May and Mei Productions, bring to life CBeebies stars Sarah and Duck in their Live Show on Thursday 31 May & Friday 1 June.

Families from all over the North West have been enjoying the Viking: Rediscover the Legend exhibition in partnership with the British Museum & Yorkshire Museum.

For the first time you will see the most significant Viking treasure hoards ever discovered in Britain on display together. Ground-breaking research and new discoveries will challenge your perceptions and give you a fresh perspective on how Vikings shaped every aspect of their lives in Britain.

It has attracted over 3000 people in the first 10 days and with the Viking re-enactors returning on 12/13 May for Southport Festival don’t miss the opportunity to have a go and learn more about Vikings and their way of life. The ships will also be returning!

The Museum and Discover Ancient Egypt Gallery are FREE to visit and we have lots of interactive displays. You can visit Monday-Saturday 10am -4pm.
