Located in the heart of Southport’s iconic Lord Street, The Atkinson is Sefton’s cultural hub. In 2023 we celebrate ten years since our multi-million-pound refurbishment. This handy brochure is your ultimate guide to the amazing events happening across the season and we guarantee you will find something that will ignite your imagination.
Families are at the heart of The Atkinson. Sarah & Duck’s Big Top Birthday (11 Aug) promises to be a celebration for little ones and grown-ups alike whilst The Bubble Show (23 Sep) is an interactive, award-winning bubble extravaganza! For more hands-on fun, we have free Make it! craft workshops throughout the school holidays.
In our theatre Jane Austen’s classic romantic tale Sense & Sensibility (5 Aug) is guaranteed to delight. All aboard our new Murder Mystery (16 Sep) production which invites you to join Captain Mendoza on his Mystery Cruise, putting you at the centre of the action!
Liverpool’s vibrant music scene is one of the most legendary in the world. In September we welcome local legends to the stage including The Christians (15 Sep) and China Crisis (29 Sep), as well as The Mersey Beatles (2 Sep) with a tribute to the Fab Four.
Our galleries are bursting with exciting new exhibitions, featuring works by both local and internationally renowned artists. The Story So Far invites you to look at different forms of storytelling in the fine art collections of both The Atkinson and the Harris Art Gallery. Whilst our Herbert Ponting exhibition takes a closer look at the photographer’s life and his work on Captain Scott’s Terra Nova expedition.
The spectacular Southport Flower Show (17-20 Aug) takes place in Victoria Park again this summer. You can purchase tickets for the show at The Atkinson and if you visit our local history museum, Between Land & Sea, you will find a display on the history of the Flower Show featuring vintage posters and archive photographs. Also in our museum, visitors to Southport Air Show (9-10 Sep) will be able to discover more about local aviation history that was made on the long sandy beaches of Southport.
