We are delighted to welcome you to The Atkinson, Southport’s award-winning arts centre. We have a fantastic range of events and activities on offer for all ages, so there’s something for everyone to enjoy. This handy guide is your gateway to a world of artistic experiences. Whether you’re an art aficionado, a theatre enthusiast, or simply seeking a fun-filled day out with the family, The Atkinson has something to ignite your imagination and inspire your creativity.

The pantomime magic continues with All Souls Dramatic Club’s modern retelling of Rapunzel (11-21 Jan) full of toe-tapping tunes, side-splitting comedy, and plenty of audience participation. Speaking of magic, Morgan and West (15 Feb) are time travelling magicians who will blow your minds with their wizarding ways! Check them out during Half Term alongside our Make It! Craft workshops (10 & 15 Feb).

Love Folk Festival (9-10 Feb) returns for Valentines’ weekend, with headliners The Magpie Arc and Merry Hell. More music highlights include Pop Idol’s Gareth Gates in The Best of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons (22 Feb) and Jive Talkin’ (22 Mar) perform the Bee Gee’s biggest hits. Our regular lunchtime concert Cake & Classical Music (8 Jan, 5 Feb, 4 Mar) takes place on the first Monday of every month.

Entry into our Museum and Art Gallery is free! You can discover an impressive variety of displays from The Atkinson’s own fine art collection, as well as work from local artists and exhibitions delivered in partnership with other cultural organisations.

Fancy a new hobby to kickstart the new year? Southport Library continues its ukulele lending service and free beginners’ courses are starting in January. The Atkinson Wellbeing Choir meet every Tuesday at 10am and is a great way to meet new friends. Our brilliant volunteers carry out and assist with a wide variety of tasks around the venue, opportunities to get involved are posted on our website.

Did you know?… Cambridge Hall was built in 1874 to designs by Maxwell & Tuke. The Grade II listed building has undergone many transformations and is now home to The Atkinson’s Box Office, Shop, Café, Theatre, Studio and Museum! In 2024 we are celebrating 150 years of Cambridge Hall. Next time you are inside the foyer, take a closer look at the large stone fireplace inscribed with the date of the hall.
