The Sefton Open is an annual exhibition celebrating the creativity and artistic talent across the borough. The exhibition takes over The Atkinson’s art gallery in an eclectic salon-style hang and features a wide variety of works from individual artists and local groups. Each year the exhibition attracts thousands of visitors to The Atkinson, approximately 9,000 people have seen the current display.
Visitors to the exhibition were encouraged to vote for their favourite artwork to win The People’s Prize and £100 cash prize. The 2024 prize has been awarded to Olivia Kenyon for their painting ‘Ocean’s Edge’. You can see more from Olivia on their Instagram and Facebook pages.
Curator of The Sefton Open, Jemma Tynan, said –
“It was wonderful to see so many votes cast by the public, most artworks received at least one nomination! The People’s Prize is always competitive and comes down to a handful of extra votes to secure the win. This year, I am happy to see the prize awarded to a young artist at the beginning of their professional career. Watch this space!”
The Sefton Open exhibition continues at The Atkinson until Saturday 4 May. Visitors can also support local artists by investing in their work, most artworks are available to purchase through The Atkinson and the Own Art Scheme. The scheme makes buying art easy and affordable by letting you spread the cost over 10 months with an interest-free loan.
Join us at The Atkinson for a big celebration of local creativity and artistic talent!
