Southport celebrates its unique part in motor racing history with the 90th anniversary of Sir Henry Segrave’s land speed record on Southport Beach.
For the first time in 90 years, the record breaking car – Sunbeam Tiger – returns to Southport. And it is reunited with it’s sister car, the Cub in collaboration with the National Motor Museum Beaulieu.

The record breaking Sunbeam Tiger returns to Southport, thanks to the generosity of a private lender, and it will be reunited here with its sister car, the Cub, in collaboration with the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu. These two remarkable vehicles will be on display at The Atkinson as the centrepiece of the celebration of the Land Speed Record 90th anniversary

Land Speed Record Re-enactment
Wednesday is the 90th anniversary of Sir Henry Segrave’s land-speed record and is the heart of the Festival. The Tiger will leave the Atkinson early morning and return to the same stretch of beach where it will re-enact the record attempt in full view of the public. Afternoon Talks
Join us for a unique afternoon with a selection of talks about Sir Henry Segrave’s life and connection to Southport, the History of Sefton’s ever-changing coast and Southport’s own special motor racing history. Tickets are £25* and include a buffet.

Segrave Anniversary Talk
We welcome two very special guest speakers, Stephen Segrave, great nephew of Sir Henry, talking about his great uncle’s life and Neville Hay, legendary race commentator and film maker, talking about his life in motor racing. Tickets are £20* and include an artisan pie and a pint of Southport Brewery ale.

Historic and Classic Car Procession
A selection of period vehicles on display in Kings Gardens on Southport Promenade. In the afternoon the vehicles will parade along the length of Lord Street in a beautiful vintage procession. Entries are limited to pre 1975 motor vehicles with the emphasis on cars from pre-war years, especially the 1920’s.
