Lecture one: The Viking communities in Scandinavia. Everyday life and Norse mythology.
Viking Life
In this 3-part lecture series you will meet the Vikings in their Scandinavian homes. You will find out how they lived. Experience the sounds of their Norse language and runes. Explore how Norse mythology gave meaning to their lives. How they developed their boat technologies. We will look at the factors that made the Vikings leave their communities and travel across the sea to great Britain. This lecture series will be presented by Kirsten Nielsen Welch, a Danish linguist with an interest in the links between language, culture and the history of Northern Europe.
