Ainsdale photographer Peter Jones has captured a record of his neighbourhood community during lockdown.

Peter photographed his neighbours in their front gardens whilst discussing experiences of lockdown. The photographs in the exhibition are accompanied by personal testimonies, shared experiences and even song lyrics from Peter’s local community.

Peter hopes the exhibition will serve as a social document in years to come.

Peter Jones said: “My images record the neighbourhood where I live and what lockdown means to them. Each household reflects on their situation, some lighthearted and some more serious. All recognise the importance of community and supporting each other.”

Ennis, Age 11: To me it means time with the family and time to read my books. It also means time to give our garden a much-needed change.
Darragh, Age 11: I like it but I don’t like it because I get to spend time with my family but because I’m in Year 6, I miss my friends most of them will go to Birkdale High and I’m going to Range.
Keela, Age 9: I think it’s good because I’ve been spending time with my family. We also get creative – we’ve built a gravel driveway and I used tools to build a log store.
Isla, Age 6: I like it and not like it … I do like it that we can be with our family but not that we can’t be with our friends ‘Corona virus is when people get sick and die’.
Sinead, Age 41: Initial fear of the unknown, fear for family and loved ones. Slight guilt that our bubble is so happy while people around the country are dying. Overall, we value each other’s strengths more and will not miss the chaos that ensues when we return to a “new normal”.
