Kidsfest Returns with a Jam-packed Week of Half Term Family Fun

The Atkinson’s annual family festival Kidsfest is back – with disgusting rhymes, a silent disco, Dogs dancing, Tom Thumb and great family comedy with James Campbell.

The annual festival was always in October, but it has now moved to its new home in February from 2018!

Every year Kidsfest brings some of the very best in children’s theatre to Southport as well as lots if free activities to keep families entertained.  The fun begins on Monday 12 and runs to Sunday 18 February.

Jay Forman’s Disgusting Songs for Revolting Children kicks of the festivities on Monday 12 February at 2.30pm. The award-winning musical comedian whose songs have been heard on BBC Radio 4, Radio 4 Extra, The One Show, London Live TV and Dave Gorman’s UK/Ireland tour. Jay provides a devilishly cheeky hour of songs, poems and comedy for children of all ages in this family friendly show which is sure to be a sell- out! Ages 6+

Don’t forget to drop in before the show to the free Make It! sessions in the Art Box. 11am-3pm join Lisa as she gets creative. It’s a great way to spend time as a family!

We invite you to Make, do and Bop with Our Kids Social on Tuesday 13 February, 1.30pm as we host our first silent disco! Join us before the disco from 1.30pm to make dancing props like disco masks, headdresses and bangles. Come and have a boogie with your little ones as you listen to music through your headphones! £6 per person (including craft) everyone needs a headset! Suitable for ages 4-10 years

Little Blue Monster are back with their production of Dogs Don’t do Ballet on Wednesday 14 February at 2.30pm. The funny tale of a little dog with a very big dream! Biff is not like other dogs. Biff likes moonlight and music and walking on his tiptoes. Tickets are £11-£9. Suitable for ages 3+

To celebrate Valentine’s Day Diana Celine Photography, Southport will be offering free Valentines themed mini photo shoots in The Atkinson on Wednesday 14 February 11am-3pm! They will have a range of “love”ly props to help capture some special photographs just for you. As a thank you for visiting The Atkinson, they will send a digital image for sharing (with a small logo) and a free link to the online gallery to view all the pictures from your mini session. All ages are welcome and they specialise in baby, children, family and couple photography.

James Campbell returns with his new show, The Hilarious Funny World Of… a stand-up comedy show for children and parents, in fact anyone who enjoys comedy without any rude words!!  His last show here sold out – so don’t miss this on Thursday 15 February at 2.30pm. Tickets are £8 £6 children / £24 family.

The classic take of Tom Thumb comes to life on Friday 16 February with Lyngo Theatre Company. Performed entirely on and under a kitchen table this wee wonder of a show is full of magic with feathery spinning birds, a flying house and a portable forest with CBeebies Patrick Lynch. Tickets are £8 £6 children / £24 family. Ages 3+

A big part of The Atkinson’s daytime offer for families includes the free Museum telling the stories of Sefton, Discover Ancient Egypt Gallery both with interactive displays for children of all ages.

We have 3 exhibitions finishing in March –Why Look at Animals, The Adventures in Egypt – Mrs Goodison & Other Travellers and the Warhol to Walker: American Prints from Pop Art to Today exhibition. So don’t miss the chance to explore them with your Arty Aprons available every day of the half term, 11am-3pm.

The Museum & Exhibitions are open Monday – Saturday 10am – 4pm and Sunday of half term 11am-4pm.

On Saturday 17 February we have an extra free festival Make it! session in The Art Box – 11am-3pm .

You can get Hands On! with some of our museum artefacts  on Tuesday 13 February between 11am-1pm ground floor foyer. (Subject to availability)

Story & Rhyme Time continues Tuesday & Wednesday 10.30am-11.30am and Thursday 2pm-3pm. A great chance for parents to come together while pre-schoolers play their instruments, sing songs and listen to stories!
