Seaside Fun at The Atkinson!

To celebrate the launch of our summer exhibitions programme, we are hosting a seaside themed family fun day packed with free events for all ages.
Roll up to The Atkinson to enjoy a day of crafts, art activities, games, drama workshops, exhibition tours, talks and foodie delights. Enjoy a day at the seaside but without the sand!
Our café, A Great Little Place, will be offering seaside treats for you to enjoy. Don’t forget to leave room for dessert as we welcome Southport Market’s Coneheads to present all of your ice cream dreams!

Interactive Storytelling
10.30am, 11.30am, 1.30pm & 2.30pm
Free, booking required as places are limited. Book here.
Combining interactive storytelling, music, nursery rhymes, drama games, sensory and imaginative play, bubbles, puppets and crafts. A fun, active and creative way to spend time enjoying stories and play together. (Age guidelines: 3-7)

Construction Club
10:30am – 12:30pm
Young inventors, creators and builders are invited to drop in and play with our massive supply of LEGO. Founded in Denmark in 1932, the name LEGO was created by taking the first two letters of the Danish words ‘leg godt’, meaning play well.

Make it! Craft Workshop
11am – 3pm
Get creative in this free craft workshops for children of all ages. Be inspired by our museum, galleries and theatre programme. All equipment provided.

Victorian Parlour Games
11am – 3pm
Parlour games were extremely popular during the Victorian era. As part of our Victorian Visitors exhibition, play some amusing games from the period.

Up Close & Magic
11am – 3pm
Rick Tynan brings some of his close-up illusions to The Atkinson. Prepare to be amazed!

The Atkinson’s curator Stephen Whittle offers insight into our new exhibitions. Find out how artists have been inspired by trees and discover the geometric artworks of Zarah Hussain.

Walking Tour: Looking up at Southport

Meet in the foyer, the tour starts and finishes at The Atkinson.
As part of their exhibition, Built on Sand, join Southport Townscape Heritage Project for a short walking tour to look up at Southport’s surprisingly varied buildings. Suitable for all the family.

Museum
10am-4pm
Our stunning Egyptology museum takes visitors on a journey through what life was like in ancient Egypt at the time of the Pharaohs. In the local history museum you can explore the history of Sefton from prehistoric times to the present day, from hunter-gatherer footprints to Dan Dare Pilot of the Future.
