The Atkinson boasts an impressive line-up of exhibitions, allowing visitors to delve into a world of art, history, and culture. Take a journey back in time through our Between Land & Sea Museum, which explores our town’s rich maritime heritage and our history of the Sefton coast from prehistoric times to the present day. Discover captivating tales of shipwrecks, shrimping, and life at sea through interactive displays and historical artefacts.
Interactive displays include sending a digital postcard, finding ships using sonar and matching birds with their song. Take part in our new A.R. experience, The Local Legends Tour, bringing artefacts to life by scanning the QR codes in the museum with your phone.
Walk with the Pharaohs in our Discover Ancient Egypt museum. This small but mighty display takes you on a journey back to ancient Egypt. Visitors can see an intricately decorated coffin lid, the Mummy of Nes-Amun, a wooden Ba-bird and rare paddle dolls, amongst many other artefacts. A range of interactive displays include the ‘Weighing of the Heart’ ceremony, X-raying an Ibis mummy and a hieroglyphic jigsaw wall. Our museums are free to access and a great way to spend a day!

Pop Princesses (Wednesday 31 May 2023) is the magical show where beautiful Princesses become pop stars! Featuring a soundtrack of top pop hits from artists such as Little Mix, Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, Meghan Trainor, and Miley Cyrus, plus all the best songs from all your favourite films and musicals. Come and join the fun! Meet and greet tickets are available and fancy dress is encouraged!
Roll up, roll up for The Greatest Show on Earth! Goldilocks and the Three Bears (2 & 3 June 2023) is a hilarious and spectacular pantomime-style show will include some of the best seasoned performers alongside top circus and speciality acts. Expect high energy choreography, loveable characters, colourful set, and costumes. There is even an opportunity to meet the characters after the show!
Construction Club (27 May 2023) is a free activity for children to let their imaginations run wild. Dive into The Atkinson’s huge supply of LEGO. What will you build? Spaces limited. First come first served basis.
