Grateful Fred’s have been pioneering Americana and Roots music in Formby, Southport and Liverpool since 2010 and during that time have presented some of the best US, Canadian and World artists.
On the first Wednesday of every month, join the Fredhead’s at The Atkinson for a wonderful night of live acoustic music.
The Club Night
Brooke Williams & Aaron Catlow
On May 3rd of 2022, last year in fact, we had one of the best Grateful Fred Nights ever, and we’ve had a few over the years.
That was when our returning headliners, Brooks Williams and Aaron Catlow played for us “Fredheads” and completely blew us all away.
Putting aside the fact that Brooks and Aaaron are two of the nicest people you could meet, they are also two of the best, most entertaing and fun musicians you could meet too.
And they are back!
Brooks, a Statesboro, Georgia USA native, now makes his home in Cambridge UK. Besides his busy solo touring schedule, he collaborates with Boo Hewerdine in their State of the Union project, as well as an on-going collaboration with Rab Noakes. Williams has also orchestrated one-time collaborations with Hans Theessink, Sloan Wainwright, Guy Davis and Sally Barker. AmericanaUK described him as having, “a beautiful voice that you just melt into.” Blues Bytes said, “Pure talent, hard work and relentless touring have brought him to the pinnacle of his career.”
Aaron is half of the Bristol-based duo with Kit Hawes. Their take on acoustic and folk music is fresh and inventive. They re-shape traditional music as well as write their own. When not gigging with Kit, Aaron also plays with Yola Carter, Sheelanagig and, now, Brooks Williams. Songlines calls Catlow “Fleet fingered…” R2 Magazine remarks on the “dexterity, energy and passion…”.
If you only take in one live music event this month then please consider making it this one. You will not be disappointed, I promise you.

“A deeply romantic and yearning singer-songwriter, well-schooled in the attractions of classic American songwriting, in particular, the seventies heydays of California’s sun-blistered troubadours.” – Paul Kerr, Blabber’n’Smoke
